Women's Self Defense

What makes our program different?

We believe that the theory of "Hit and split, stun and run" is the best preventative self defense style, if you can run, do it! However there are times when this is not possible to run. Our women's self defense programs focus on the worst case scenario, how to avoid as much damage to yourself and cause as much damage to your attacker when they already have a hold of you. We do not teach fancy moves designed to bring down your opponent with a finger nail, no matter how impressive that sounds. We focus on building fundamental skills that can be practiced and absorbed into muscle memory so that when the pressure is on, and adrenaline is coursing through your veins, you won't have to think, your body will just do.

What skills are taught?

  • How to use basic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/ Mixed martial arts defense to minimize damage.
  • How to weave through punches from the guard.
  • How to avoid being punched, elbowed, or choked while fully mounted.
  • How to control your opponent and apply basic submission techniques to the joints, throat, and "Other" sensitive areas.
  • How to escape common assault positions and run in the most efficient manner.

"I assure you that I take the concept of Women's Self Defense very seriously. While working as a domestic violence and rape prevention educator with Project S.U.R.V.I.V.E at City College of San Francisco, I have heard many stories, known many women, and seen firsthand the effects of physical violence. I don't want to alarm my students with statistics and horror stories. My goal is not to teach women to be afraid, it is to teach them the skills and strategies necessary to protect themselves, while using drills designed to build the instinct to use them. Through real time application, my students will develop a deep sense of knowing they can protect themselves, and people with that confidence are less likely to be attacked."

Triangle Choke Crash Course

"The triangle choke is without a doubt the most common, most versatile, and highest percentage technique in my game. It is great both as a primary offense and a secondary transition. The technique can be applied from virtually any position including some positions that may surprise you (Half Guard, Back Mount, Dog Fight, etc...) The drills and techniques in this course will have you not only finishing triangles more often, but applying them from positions you may have never thought to look."

-Michael Murrell

What will be taught?

  • Advanced triangle choke finishing concepts.
  • Triangle defense and the counters to those defenses.
  • Transitions from the triangle into various submissions (Armbars, Teepee's, shoulder locks, etc...)
  • Triangle chokes from the following positions: Full Guard, Half Guard, Butterfly Guard, Inverted Guard, Side Mount, Full Mount, Knee On the Belly, Back Mount, Rubber Guard, and more!
